Tay Forest District covers over 36,000ha and the team is led by Doug Howieson (Forest District Manager).

The District which contains a diverse range of forests, site types, climatic conditions, habitats and cultural heritage and stretches across Angus, Kinross, North-East Fife and Perthshire. There is a strong emphasis on sound silvicultural practices, innovation and creating cost-effective solutions.
Purpose of the Job :
To support the Assistant Area Operations Manager in delivering Forest Management operational work in the Central Ops Area on behalf of Tay Forest District.
Key Work Areas :
** Manage the planning, implementation and delivery of key operational Forest Management activities, to achieve agreed business plan targets; focusing on the delivery of woodland establishment, maintenance & protection of established crops (restocking, natural regeneration and productive broadleaves).
** To meet business critical deadlines, plan, prioritise and manage time, resources and duties to ensure all key targets are met.
** Health and Safety – ensure that delivery of all operations is compliant with Industry and Forestry Enterprise Scotland best practice.
** Manage the District Pesticide Store to ensure full compliance with BASIS certification scheme, & environmental & safety laws.
** Work with and manage the Works Supervisor to achieve the above targets.
Person Specification :
Experience and Professional/Technical Expertise :
** Experience of managing Health and Safety and how it is applied in the forest industry;
** Experience / Understanding of managing Forestry operations;
** Experience with Microsoft office packages or equivalent.
** Formal forestry qualification HND or higher;
** Experience of FM operations including ground preparation, planting, pesticide applications and fencing;
** An understanding of silvicultural principles (right tree for right site);

The duties of this post require the applicant to have a full current driving licence that enables them to drive in the UK. However, the Forestry Commission is willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants that would allow them to do the job by other means.
