Energy Specialist Intern :

The National Energy Foundation is seeking a talented Energy Specialist Intern to join their Technical Team.

This role will involve assisting with the technical and economic analysis of energy strategies in buildings with the support of in-house technical specialists.

You will work in an area which is strategically important for the Foundation within a small team, meaning there will be real opportunity to have a tangible impact on the Technical Team’s delivery.

This position involves setup of complex calculation workbooks to perform energy and sizing calculations to relevant EN standards and conducting market enquiries to assist our clients in reducing their energy consumption and environmental impact.

Techno-economic energy consulting is a growing area within the Foundation and with dedicated staff numbers expected to increase there may be opportunity for full-time entry at Energy Specialist level upon successful internship completion.

Responsibilities :
** Automation of SAP based procedures for techno-economic calculations to assess feasibility of energy upgrade interventions in buildings developments
** Automation of calculation procedures for simplified quantification of the building energy use and system sizing to EN standards

** Financial evaluation of fabric and services energy efficiency measures including costing of energy efficiency interventions via market research and discounted cash flow analysis – regular telephone enquiries to suppliers are required

Employment basis :
The role will be based at the National Energy Foundation office in Milton Keynes for 10 weeks with remuneration of £300/week.

Skills required :
Essential/priority skills :
** 2.1 or above bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, energy engineering or other building-related engineering discipline
** Have a keen interest and passion for technical sustainability in buildings including economics
** Knowledge of building physics fundamentals and applications
** Highly numerate, with methodical and problem-solving mind
** Proficiency of MS Excel
** Knowledge of simplified energy modelling platforms and ability to understand new software quickly
** Attend internal and external meetings as required
** Initiative and inclination to learn, willingness and ability to pick up new concepts quickly
** Plan and undertake phone enquiries effectively

Desirable skills/qualifications :
** Familiarity with load calculation software e.g., Trace 700
** Familiarity with cost optimal methodology to EPBD recast
** Knowledge of dynamic simulation modelling
** Bachelor thesis related to sustainability in the built environment
** Good knowledge of coding
** Keep up to date with developments in the energy sector

** Be a student or graduate member of an appropriate professional institution such as the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, with the intention to achieve corporate membership within three years from career start

** Ability to execute instructions, work under pressure and manage allocated time to meet strict deadlines
** Proactive, with a can-do attitude, inquisitive, versatile and open to new ideas
** Motivated, results focused, commitment to work driven by aspiration to excellence and strive for quality
** Bring energy and enthusiasm to the office
